The return of Phoebe Philo

by Maje Pérez-Ramos

The fashion world woke up  yesterday with the news that British designer Phoebe Philo will be in operation again soon. According to WWD, 2022 will witness the birth of her eponymous brand with the financial support of luxury giant LVMH, in a project based, in her own words, “on exceptional design and quality”.

The figure of Philo has acquired mythological proportions since her departure from Celine in 2017 and subsequent retirement from the fashion industry (temporarily, as we have seen). The feminine, refined and contemporary style with which she brought the French maison back to the top  can still be traced in the work of today’s best designers.  Moreover, it earned her a legion of devotees who, depending on their respective budgets, became regular purchasers of her collections or of the frequent “tributes” that fast fashion brands paid to her best creations. The clothes and accessories from his time at Celine still pop up at luxury second-hand buying platforms, where his fans are quick to get their hands on them.

For those fashion lovers out there who aren’t familiar with Philo’s work and want to participate in the general rejoice, here’s a selection of articles with everything a philophile needs to know:

  • a biographical note of the designer, courtesy of VOGUE
  • her most iconic creations for Celine, according to Amy de Klerk  (Harper’s Bazaar)
  • Hunting and chasing down a pre-loved Celine bag and review of it, by London-based influencer Emma Hill on YouTube.
