Burberry steps into the rent and resale business. Following the footsteps of compatriot brands such as L.K. Bennett, the British luxury brand is joining a business model that is becoming increasingly popular in the UK. More details on Burberry’s new move in this article by Sandra Halliday for Fashion Network.

Zara wants to distance itself from its image as a fast-fashion giant and directs the attention to its limited, premium collections. The latest of these is Zara Atelier, a capsule of six coats designed to evoke artisanal techniques, luxurious materials and rich detailing. Each of the models is accompanied by an extensive fact sheet that attests the Spanish brand’s efforts to improve the sustainability of its materials and the transparency of the production chain.

And, last but not least, Sezáne returns to Madrid (and it seems that this time it for good). As Eva García Morales already announced in this article for Fashion Network, the French brand, founded by Morgane Sézalory, is opening its own shop tomorrow at number 40 Claudio Coello, just in time for the Christmas campaign.

Have a nice weekend everyone!

The wave of collaborations between brands is merrily going on: first, Net-a-porter announced this…

The wave of collaborations between brands is merrily going on: first, Net-a-porter announced this week the launch of a capsule collection exclusively designed by LOEWE for them. The clothes and accesorios in it stay true to the values and aesthetics of the Spanish brand but with a much more commercial approach. Later in the week, an unexpected series of Supreme jackets designed by Italian brand Missoni appeared (you can see them in the Supreme IG account and buy online at their website). The Missoni spirit is easy to spot in the knitting techniques, the colors and, of course, the classic zigzags.

Shein faces scandal this week: some exclusive suppliers of the Chinese fast-fashion brand were accused of labour abuses. You can read more details about it in this piece written by Nigel Taylor for Fashion Network.

And, finally, we say goodbye with the spectacular Louis Vuitton fashion show that took place in Shanghai on Wednesday. Nicolás Ghesquière presented (again) the Women’s RTW SS-22 collection, slightly tweaked to please the asian customers. In case you are wondering why recently the big Maisons are presenting the same collections in different locations in the world, this very interesting article written by Dominique Muret for Fashion Network will explain you the reason.

We wrap up a week full of interesting news, here are some key ones: Daniel…

We wrap up a week full of interesting news, here are some key ones:

Daniel Lee leaves Bottega Veneta. After almost three years during which he has reinvented the savoir faire of the Italian brand turning it into one of the most profitable houses in the Kering portfolio, the news have surprised everyone in the industry. This article written by Vanessa for The New York Times explores possible reasons for this unexpected announcement.

The Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards (CFDA) are back! The gala took place in New York with Emily Blunt acting as host. The best Women’s Clothing Designer Award went to Demna Gvasalia, current Creative Director for Balenciaga. See in this Vogue article, by Janelle Okwodu, the best looks of the evening.

And to end things on a Spanish note, Freshly Cosmetics continues its internationalization. After its first investment round, the very successful Spanish company starts its journey in the UK, where a London store is about to open next week. Found out more about it in this article by Modaes.

We welcome the weekend remembering our three top stories of this week: Facebook now is…

We welcome the weekend remembering our three top stories of this week:

Facebook now is called Meta. In this video, Mark Zuckerberg spares no efforts to seduce us with his dreams for the next stage of his company (and, according to him, of the whole Internet). The news have been greeted with some skepticism if not plain distrust by the general public, but experts point out that, for companies, the metaverse holds countless business opportunities. You can read an interesting article by Andrea Cappai for The Fashion Law on this topic and possible legal implications here.

Designer Antonio Alvarado, one of the last living legends of the 1980’s “movida madrileña”, has been awarded the National Fashion Design Award by the Ministry of Culture and Sport for his professional career. For readers who are not familiar with his figure, this article by Marisol Navarro for ABC gives a brief overview of his life and career. His carefully curated and intimate personal IG account is proof of his artistic talent, as well.

Gucci and Chanel have competed for the limelight this week, both presenting their latest collections. While Alessandro Michele and an army of colourful celebrities and models turned Hollywood Boulevard (L.A.) into a delirious seventies dream, the Parisian maison did the same and spared no expense to present its cruise collection 2021-2022 in Dubai.

Here go the three news with which we sum up the week: Fendi X Skims.…

Here go the three news with which we sum up the week:

Fendi X Skims. Kim Jones adds yet another surprising collaboration for Fendi, this time with Kim Kardashian-owned underwear/shapewear brand Skims. As Kardashian announced earlier this week on her IG account, the collection will launch on 9 november, featuring Skims-style clothes covered in Fendi logos. The news has caused quite a stir and conflicting opinions, some suggesting it could be not the best move for Fendi right now. Here you can see some images of the campaign, photographed by Steven Meisel.

Puig scores big time and acquires the license to develop a beauty collection for Jacquemus, an alliance that promises to be very profitable for the catalonian group. Jacquemus is currently one of the coolest French brands, incarnating the new French sexy, and has seduced influencers and celebrities worldwide. You can read more about it in this article by Modaes.

And staying in the Puig portfolio of brands we move to Jean Paul Gaultier. The french brand has announced this week that soon it will possible to rent or buy vintage clothes and accessories that until now were kept in their archives. Amidst the 90’s fashion fever revival we live in, vintage JPG is more on demand than ever and the company wants to make profit out of it by tapping into new business options, such the rental and resale. More about this in this Harper’s Bazaar article.

Gucci experiences a severe slowdown in its Q3 results. As reported by Vogue Business in…

Gucci experiences a severe slowdown in its Q3 results. As reported by Vogue Business in this article written by Laure Guibault, the brand posted a sales increase of 3.8%, very far from the 9.1% predicted by analysts. Kering has pointed to pandemic restrictions in Asia and supply chain issues as responsible factors. This results come in sharp constrast with Hermés 31% sales increase in the same period.

Burberry has its next CEO. Following the high-profile departure of Italian Marco Gobetti, citing family reasons, the British brand has announced that Jonathan Akeroyd, current CEO of Versace, will take up his position from April 2022. Akeroyd has also stated that he is accepting the position to return to the UK with his family. Read more about this interesting CEO swap here.

Rumours of a merger between Richemont and Farfetch are back, a deal that would make up for the luxury Swiss giant proverbial lack of digital skills. After months of silence, Miss Tweed reports in this article written by Astrid Wendlandt, that negotiations between Johann Rupert, chairman of Richemont and José Neves, CEO of Farfetch are on again. A number of factors, however, stand in the way of this deal: the fate of YNAP (Yoox/Net-à-Porter) acquired by Richemont in 2018 and that, according to Miss Tweed, is eager to off-load now, the existing bad blood between several Farfetch and Richemont high-rank employees and, last but not least, the strong personalities of Rupert and Neves. Read more about it in this article from The Fashion Law.

The shocking story with which Olivier Rousteing, creative director of Balmain, surprised the world this…

The shocking story with which Olivier Rousteing, creative director of Balmain, surprised the world this week: a year ago he suffered a serious home accident that caused him burns all over his body. He kept the incident and his recovery a secret and only now, on the occasion of his tenth anniversary at the French maison, has he told his story. Read it in his own words here.

Scandal splashes Coach: environmental activist Anna Sacks (@thetrashwalker) reveals in Tik Tok evidence of the more than questionable practice of damaging and discarding unsold merchandise, with which the American firm (and it seems it is not the only one) reduces it tax bill. Coach now faces an unprecedented reputational crisis. All the details here.

Farfetch is the first company that tests this month along with digital fashion platform DressX the…

Farfetch is the first company that tests this month along with digital fashion platform DressX the practice of “digital sampling”, digitally dressing influencers to promote the launch of its new pre-order offer from brands such as Balenciaga, Palm Angels, Khaite, Off-White, Oscar de la Renta, Dolce & Gabbana, Nanushka, Casablanca and Nicholas Kirkwood.

In her article for VogueBusiness “Influencers are wearing digital versions of physical clothes now”Maghan McDowell writes about the advantages of digital patterns over physical garments and explains how digital sampling works.

According to the article, influencers receive instructions on how to take their pictures and how to pose for the digital proof. Each influencer chooses their preferred look. After providing several images that are digitally cropped by the DressX team, Farfetch, DressX and the influencer review the images to make any necessary changes.

For the digital sampling test, Farfetch selected 10 global influencers and creatives who have a passion for futuristic digital fashion and identify themselves with the Farfetch brand. The collaboration is being carried out for example with Emirati twins @twinshadban, with Korean artist @cheristyle_ , with Kuwaiti artist @taiibbbaaa, as well as with the twins @q2han.

“It’s a way of testing if products are interesting enough for people to buy, before having a massive stock of samples that people don’t want,” says Thinh Petrus Nguyen, director artístico de la marca danesa Han Kjøbenhavn.
